Day 9 North Battleford, Sask.....winners at the Casino (Pics updated Aug 29)

3581 km from home
As many others were, we were surprised to hear of the passing of Jack Layton. We must enjoy each other and each day to the fullest.
Canadian Trivia....After we left Foam Lake this morning, I learned that it is the canola capital of Canada and "canola" is short for "Canadian oil".
It was a very hot day (32C) as we travelled along the Yellowhead Trail to North Battlefield. The combines are out in full force....there are round bales of straw and hay all over the landscape. The picture above shows one of the largest combines manned by two people.
Four times, we passed the same truck driving on the shoulder of the road and pulling a combine sitting sideways on a trailer. He would have been taken off the road in Ontario but we learned it is legal here during the week.

Today, we saw two very large potash plants and also, the beautiful scenery provided by the Saskatchewan River Valley and the variety of crops brilliant in different colours, and yes, a picnic lunch in another beautiful setting along the way.

And as usual, the day began with our trailer packing routine.

Tonight, we went to a casino which is located next door to our hotel. We made $35 each by signing up for a rewards card and cashing out coupons that were given with the card to encourage us to gamble. We both thought we should quit with our $35 in hand.
Tomorrow....Alberta.
